How to Choose the Best AI Video Agency: A Buyer's Checklist

Anyone can generate a video clip now. The best AI video agency is the one whose videos sell. Eight things to check before you hire one, and the red flags to walk away from.

A year ago, very few agencies offered AI video. Now everyone does. Every freelancer with a subscription to a video tool calls themselves an AI video agency, and every portfolio is full of beautiful clips.

That's the problem. Beautiful clips are cheap now. The question isn't whether an agency can make an AI video. It's whether their AI videos make you money.

We run an AI video agency in Accra, so we're not neutral. But this checklist works for judging anyone, including us.

What "best" should mean

For a business, the best AI video agency is the one that brings down your cost per sale. Not the one with the most cinematic showreel. Not the one with the most followers.

That sounds obvious, but it changes what you look for. An AI video made for an advert has a different job from an AI video made to impress other creatives. It has to stop a thumb in under three seconds, explain the product clearly, answer a doubt and tell the viewer what to do next. Then it has to do that better than the other nine versions you're testing.

So judge agencies as advertisers who use AI, not as AI artists who sometimes make adverts.

The checklist

1. They start with research, not the tool

Ask what happens before production. A good answer sounds like this: we read your reviews, your WhatsApp chats and your competitors' adverts, find the doubts and desires your buyers have, and write scripts around them.

A weak answer starts with the tool: "We use the latest model, so the quality is amazing." The tool is the easy part. Knowing what to say is the hard part, and it's where most AI videos fail. See AI ad scripts.

2. They show results, not just reels

Ask for numbers from videos they made as adverts. Cost per sale, cost per lead, return on ad spend, click-through rate compared with the client's old creative. If they can only show you the videos and not what happened when the videos ran, they're a production house.

There's nothing wrong with production houses. But if you're paying for adverts, you want an agency that is answerable to sales.

3. They make many versions, on purpose

Meta's ad system, Andromeda, picks who sees your advert by studying the creative itself. One video gives it one way to find buyers. Ten genuinely different videos give it ten. See Meta's Andromeda update.

A good AI video agency builds this into every package: different hooks, different presenters, different settings and different reasons to buy, for the same product. Ask how many distinct concepts you get each month, and what "distinct" means to them. Ten videos with the same script and a different background colour is one concept, not ten.

4. They can run the ads, or work closely with whoever does

The videos and the ad account need to talk to each other. The person reading the results should be able to say "the hooks about delivery are winning, make more of those" and get new versions within days.

If the agency only delivers files and disappears, that loop breaks. Ask who reads the numbers and how quickly winners become new versions.

5. They use your real product

AI can put your product anywhere: a kitchen in East Legon, a beach in Busua, a studio in London. But the product itself must look exactly as it does in real life. Colour, shape, size, label. If a buyer receives something that doesn't match the advert, you lose the sale, the customer and your reputation.

Ask how they keep the product accurate. The right answer involves your own photos and phone clips as the source.

6. They have rules about honesty

AI makes it easy to fake things: fake customers, fake reviews, fake results. A serious agency will refuse. Ask them directly what they won't do. We wrote ours down in our rules for honest AI advertising.

7. They understand your market

A voice that sounds natural to a buyer in Lagos may sound wrong to a buyer in Kumasi or Manchester. The references, the humour, the objections and the way people pay all differ. Ask how they adapt scripts, voices and settings for your buyers.

8. You own everything

The scripts, the videos, the source files and the ad account should be yours. If you stop working together, you should keep every asset.

Red flags

  • The showreel has no numbers. Pretty is not proof.
  • They promise viral. Nobody controls virality. Sales are a better target anyway.
  • One video per month. That's a shoot replacement, not a testing system.
  • No questions about your customers. They can't write a script that sells to people they haven't studied.
  • Fake testimonials. If they'll fake reviews for you, they'll cut other corners too.
  • They can't explain what happens after the click. A great advert sending people to a weak page still loses money.

Questions to ask on the first call

  1. What do you need from me before you write a script?
  2. How many genuinely different concepts will I get each month?
  3. Can you show me results from videos you made as adverts?
  4. Who reads the ad results, and how fast do you make new versions of winners?
  5. How do you keep my product accurate?
  6. What won't you do with AI?
  7. Do I own the files?

How we do it

At MediaWura we research first, write scripts with tested hooks, produce with AI, make several versions of every idea and run them as adverts, judged by cost per sale. We do it for brands in Ghana, Nigeria, the UK and the US. You can see the full method on our AI video ads service page and the step-by-step in our AI video production process.

Common questions

Is an AI video agency cheaper than a production company?

Usually, per concept, yes, because there are no crew, studio, location or model fees. The bigger saving is that you can test many ideas for the cost of one shoot and keep only what sells. See AI ads vs a real shoot.

Do I need an AI video agency if I already have a social media manager?

They do different jobs. A social media manager keeps your page active. An AI video agency makes adverts built to sell and tests them. Many brands need both.

Can an AI video agency make TV adverts?

Yes. See AI commercials for how broadcast work differs from social adverts.

How quickly can an AI video agency deliver?

Once the research and scripts are approved, the first batch usually takes days, not weeks.
