AI Commercials: TV-Quality Adverts Without a Film Crew

AI commercials are TV, YouTube and billboard adverts produced with AI instead of a film crew. What they cost compared with a shoot, what they're good and bad at, and how to make one that sells.

A traditional TV commercial in Ghana is a big project. A production company, a director, a crew, actors, a location or studio, lighting, sound, an edit suite and weeks of work. For many businesses that budget is simply out of reach, so the TV slot, the YouTube pre-roll and the digital billboard stay with the biggest brands.

AI commercials change that. You can now produce a broadcast-quality advert with AI doing most of the production, at a fraction of the cost and time.

What an AI commercial is

An AI commercial is a full advert, usually 15, 30 or 60 seconds, where the visuals, presenters, voiceover, music or all of them are made or heavily assisted by AI. It's made for the bigger screens: television, YouTube, cinema, digital billboards and in-store displays, as well as social media.

The difference from an AI social advert is mostly in the finish. A TikTok advert can feel raw and still work. A commercial on TV or a billboard is judged next to the biggest brands in the country, so it has to look and sound polished.

What it costs compared with a shoot

We don't publish prices because every project is different. But the cost structure is completely different.

The money you save on production can go where it matters more: buying airtime, or making several versions to test before you commit the big budget.

What AI commercials are good at

  • Places you can't afford to film. A city skyline at dawn, a busy market, a luxury apartment, a farm at harvest.
  • Product shots that would need special equipment. Liquid pours, slow-motion splashes, a phone rotating in mid-air.
  • Multiple versions. A Twi version, an English version, a version for Nigeria, a 15-second cut, a 6-second bumper.
  • Speed. A seasonal campaign for Christmas or Independence Day can be ready in time, even if you decided late. See festive season ads.
  • Testing before broadcast. Run versions on Facebook and YouTube first, see which one people respond to, then put the winner on TV.

That last point is the big one. Traditional commercials are a single expensive bet. AI lets you test the bet before you place it.

What they're not good at

Be honest about the limits.

  • Real people you need to feature. If the commercial must show your actual CEO, a real celebrity or real customers, film them. You can still use AI around them.
  • Fine human detail in long shots. Hands, complex emotions and long continuous scenes are where AI still sometimes looks wrong. A good team writes around this.
  • Anything that would mislead. A commercial can't show a product doing something it doesn't do. See our rules for honest AI advertising.

How we make an AI commercial

1. The idea first

What's the one thing the viewer must remember? A commercial without a single clear idea is just pretty pictures. We research your buyers and your competitors before we write anything.

2. Script and storyboard

The script is written for the screen and the length. Then we storyboard each shot, so you approve the plan before production starts.

3. Production

Scenes, product shots, presenters where needed, voiceover, music and sound design. Your real product photos and clips are the source for anything showing the product.

4. Finishing for broadcast

TV and outdoor screens have technical requirements: resolution, frame rate, sound levels, safe areas for text. Stations and screen owners publish their own specifications, and we deliver to them.

5. Versions and testing

Cut-downs for 15 and 6 seconds, vertical versions for social, and alternative openings. Where there's time, we test versions online before the broadcast budget is spent.

Will viewers know it's AI?

Some will, especially if they look closely. Most won't care if the advert is clear, relevant and honest. Viewers judge a commercial on whether it says something worth hearing.

Where platforms or broadcasters require disclosure of AI-generated content, follow the rules. Meta and YouTube both have policies on this, and they change, so check them for each campaign.

Common questions

Can an AI commercial run on Ghanaian TV?

AI-produced adverts are delivered as normal video files and can run wherever a filmed advert can, provided they meet the station's technical specifications and advertising standards.

Can you use my brand colours and logo?

Yes. Your brand identity is built into every scene. If your brand isn't consistent yet, see brand identity vs logo.

Can you mix real footage with AI?

Yes, and often that's the best answer. Film the product or the founder on a phone, and let AI build the world around them.
