Imaginal Leadership Institute: Building the Brand and Website for a Selective Leadership Programme
MediaWura created the Imaginal Leadership Institute's brand guide, colours and brand assets, then built its website: programme pages, a guided application and application tracking.
The Imaginal Leadership Institute is an Accra-based leadership institute that runs selective programmes for founders, executives and leaders of public and impact organisations. MediaWura created its brand guide, colours and brand assets, and built its website.
This case study covers both halves of that work, because they were designed to do the same job. An institute that admits people selectively has to look like it before anyone reads a word, and its website has to make a serious application feel worth the effort.
Who is the Imaginal Leadership Institute?
The Imaginal Leadership Institute, or ILI, describes itself as a leadership formation institute, not a mass training platform. Its position is stated plainly on its own site: "We do not train influencers. We train thinkers, builders, and responsible decision-makers."
It runs three programmes. The flagship is the Imaginal Leadership Formation Fellowship, a structured cohort programme with live sessions, guest mentors and a capstone presentation. The Strategic Business Leadership Program is an executive track for managers and founders. The Professional Certificate in Policy and Institutional Leadership is for NGO founders, foundation leaders, development professionals and public sector managers. Its own framework, Boardroom Intelligence™, runs through all of them.
Admission is by application. The institute says it selects on leadership readiness, experience and potential, not age or title.
What did ILI need from its brand and website?
ILI needed an identity that signals seriousness and selectivity at a glance, and a website that explains three different programmes clearly and takes a candidate all the way through a structured application.
That is a harder brief than it sounds. Leadership training is a crowded space, and much of it looks the same: bright colours, motivational slogans, stock photos of people pointing at whiteboards. ILI's message is the opposite of that. "Governance, not popularity." "Boardroom literacy, not motivation." "Selective, not open-access." The brand had to carry that message before the copy did.

The brand MediaWura created
MediaWura created ILI's brand guide, colour palette and brand assets, giving the institute one consistent identity across its website and materials.
Colours: deep navy and gold
The palette is built on deep navy, close to black, with a warm gold accent and soft off-white for text. Navy carries authority and calm, the colours of boardrooms and institutions. Gold is used sparingly, for the logo mark, key buttons, labels and the emphasised line in each headline, so it always signals something important. The restraint is the point: a selective institution should not shout.
We explain how colour choices like this are made in choosing brand colours.
Type: a classic serif with a clean partner
Headlines are set in a high-contrast serif with an italic gold line for emphasis, as in "We Build Institutions. We Form Leaders." The serif gives the institute an academic, established voice. Body text uses a clean, highly readable sans-serif, so long programme descriptions stay comfortable to read on a phone.
Mark and assets
The institute's identity is anchored by a simple gold mark beside its name. MediaWura produced the brand assets that carry the identity into use. On the website, that includes the browser and phone icons and a branded image that appears when a page is shared on WhatsApp, LinkedIn or X.
The brand guide
The brand guide exists so that anyone producing materials for ILI, whether a designer, a printer or a staff member making a slide, works from the same rules on colour, type and usage. Without one, a brand drifts the moment a second person starts making things. See what brand guidelines should include.
The website MediaWura built
MediaWura built a multi-page website with a page for each programme, a governance page, an about page, a guided multi-step application and a page where applicants can track their status.
A homepage that filters as much as it sells
The homepage opens with "We Build Institutions. We Form Leaders." and an "Admissions open" label. It then sets out the routes in, the institute's philosophy, what makes ILI different, and who should apply. The eligibility section ends with a line that does the filtering for the institute: "No prior 'title' is required. But seriousness is required."
A page for each programme
The Programs page compares all three programmes side by side: who each is for, its focus and its outcomes. Each programme then has its own detailed page. The Fellowship page covers the structure, objectives, syllabus, competencies, the application process, admission and scholarship options, the code of conduct, certification criteria and the alumni network.
Governance and about pages
A Governance page introduces the institute's leadership with full profiles and explains its structure and standards. An About page sets out the institute's purpose and approach. For a programme asking people to commit time and money, showing who runs it matters as much as describing what it teaches.
A guided application with saved progress
The Apply page tells candidates what to have ready before they start. The application itself is a step-by-step form that begins with choosing a programme, and it saves progress automatically, so a candidate who is interrupted does not lose their answers.
Application tracking
A Track Application page lets candidates enter their application tracking ID and see their current status, instead of emailing to ask.
The decisions behind the build
The main decisions came from treating the website as the institute's admissions office, open all hours.
Why calls to action point to details before the form
The homepage's main button is "Access Fellowship Details", not "Apply". An "Apply Now" button stays in the header on every page for people who are ready, but most candidates for a selective programme want to understand it first. Sending them to the details builds the commitment that a long application needs.
Why the application is split into steps
A single long form on a phone is where many applications get abandoned. Breaking it into steps, starting with an easy choice and saving progress as the candidate goes, makes a serious application manageable on mobile data. More on this in landing page mistakes.
Built for phones and search
On a phone, the page links fold into a menu button, headlines stay large and legible, and the main buttons stretch to full width so they are easy to tap. Each programme has its own page and title, and the site publishes a sitemap so search engines can find every page.
What ILI can do with it now
ILI now has an identity and a website that work together.
- Present the institute consistently across its website, documents and social posts, using one brand guide.
- Send a prospective candidate one link to the exact programme that suits them.
- Receive complete, structured applications for all three programmes.
- Let candidates check their own application status.
- Show partners and sponsors who leads the institute and how it is governed.
Common questions
How long does a brand and website project like this take?
It depends on how much is being created from scratch, how many pages and features the site needs, and how quickly decisions are made. MediaWura gives a timeline in writing after a free audit.
Should we do the brand before the website?
Ideally, yes, or both together. The website is usually the first place people meet a brand, so colours, type and tone should be settled before pages are designed. See brand identity versus a logo.
How much does a brand identity and website cost?
Every project is scoped differently, so MediaWura quotes a fixed fee in writing after a free audit. You see the full cost before work starts.
Can you build an application or admissions process into our website?
Yes. Multi-step applications, saved progress and status tracking are all things MediaWura can build, for schools, institutes, programmes and recruitment.
