How Much Does Google Ads Cost in Ghana?
What decides the cost of Google Ads in Ghana, how to set a budget from your own numbers, and how to stop paying for searches that never become customers.
Google Ads has no fixed price. You pay per click, and the price of each click is set by an auction every time someone searches. That's why one business pays a few cedis per click and another pays many times more.
Here's what decides your cost, and how to plan a budget.
What decides the cost per click
Competition
The more businesses bidding on the same keyword, the higher the price. Keywords in industries like real estate, loans, law, insurance and education tend to cost more, because each customer is valuable and many advertisers want them.
Many Ghanaian searches still have fewer advertisers than the same searches in bigger markets, which can make clicks cheaper. But it varies a lot by industry and city.
Quality
Google rewards adverts and landing pages that are relevant to the search. A clear advert that matches the search and sends people to a useful, fast page can pay less per click and still appear higher than a competitor with a bigger bid.
Match types and wasted searches
Broad keywords can match many searches, including irrelevant ones. Each wasted click costs money. A tight keyword list and strong negative keywords keep costs down.
Location and time
Targeting a whole country costs differently from targeting one city. Some hours and days are more competitive.
How to set your budget
Work backwards from what a customer is worth.
- Value of a customer: what's a typical sale or contract worth, and what's your margin?
- Close rate: of the people who call or message from Google, how many become customers?
- Affordable cost per lead: profit per customer × close rate.
Example: a solar installation brings GH₵ 4,000 profit. You close one in five enquiries. You can afford up to GH₵ 800 per enquiry and still break even. Google Ads at GH₵ 100 per enquiry would be very profitable.
Then estimate clicks: if your landing page turns one in ten clicks into an enquiry, and clicks cost GH₵ 5, each enquiry costs about GH₵ 50.
Example budgets
| Business | What a lead is worth | Likely starting budget |
|---|---|---|
| Local service (repairs, cleaning) | Modest | A small daily budget in one city |
| Clinic, school, training | Medium to high | A moderate daily budget across key services |
| Real estate, solar, B2B | High | Larger budgets justified by deal size |
Start with a budget you can sustain for at least a month. Google's automated bidding needs data to learn.
How to stop wasting money
- Add negative keywords like "free", "jobs", "salary", "PDF" and irrelevant locations.
- Check the search terms report weekly.
- Pause keywords that spend but never convert.
- Use location targeting for the areas you serve.
- Schedule adverts for hours when someone can answer calls.
- Improve your landing page. A page that converts twice as well halves your cost per lead.
Hidden costs to plan for
- Landing pages, if your website isn't suitable.
- Call tracking or WhatsApp click tracking.
- Management time, yours or an agency's.
Common questions
Is Google Ads expensive in Ghana?
It depends on your industry. For many local service searches, it can be affordable. In competitive industries, clicks cost more, but so are the customers worth more.
What's the minimum budget?
There's no official minimum, but very small budgets make it hard to learn what works. Plan for at least a month of testing.
Should I pay an agency or do it myself?
Small campaigns can be run yourself if you check them weekly. As spend grows, good management often saves more than it costs.
