The Dashboard Every Business Owner Should Check Each Morning
Your sales, ad spend, stock and cash live in six different places. A simple morning dashboard brings them together. The numbers to include, and how to set it up.
Most business owners know how they're doing by feel. "It's been a good week." "Things are slow." By the time the real numbers come in, at month end, if at all, it's too late to act.
A daily dashboard changes that. One screen, checked over morning tea, that tells you what happened yesterday and what needs attention today.
Why most owners don't have one
Their numbers live in different places:
- Sales in the shop, PayLead or a notebook.
- Ad spend in Meta, Google and TikTok.
- Stock in a spreadsheet.
- Cash across MoMo wallets and bank accounts.
- Leads in WhatsApp.
Pulling it together takes hours, so it doesn't happen. A dashboard that updates itself solves that.
The numbers to include
Keep it to around ten numbers. More than that, and you stop looking.
| Number | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Yesterday's revenue | The daily pulse |
| Orders | Are more people buying? |
| Average order value | Are bundles and upsells working? |
| Ad spend | What you paid for attention |
| Cost per sale | What each customer cost |
| Return on ad spend | Is advertising profitable? |
| New leads or enquiries | Pipeline for tomorrow |
| Stock alerts | Best-sellers running low |
| Unfulfilled orders | What's late |
| Cash available | Can you pay what's due? |
Add comparison: yesterday vs the same day last week, this month vs last month.
What to do with it
The dashboard is only useful if it leads to action.
- Revenue down, ad spend the same? Check creative and landing pages.
- Cost per sale rising? Look for tired adverts. See ad fatigue.
- Leads up, sales flat? Check reply speed and follow-up. See speed to lead.
- Stock alert on a best-seller? Reorder now.
- Unfulfilled orders piling up? Talk to delivery today.
How to set one up
Simple: a shared spreadsheet
Someone updates key numbers every morning. Better than nothing, but relies on a person.
Better: connected tools
Many platforms export data or connect to dashboard tools. Ad accounts, your shop and payment platform can feed one view automatically.
Best: a custom dashboard
Built around your business, pulling from every source, readable on your phone, with a summary sent to WhatsApp or email each morning. See our custom dashboards.
Make sure the data is right
A dashboard built on bad data is worse than none. Check that sales tracking is accurate, that ad platforms record conversions properly, and that refunds and cancelled orders are handled. See setting up the Meta Pixel.
Common questions
Should my team see the dashboard?
Often yes, at least the parts relevant to them. Teams that see the numbers tend to care more about them.
Weekly or daily?
Daily for the pulse; a deeper weekly review for decisions.
If you'd like your numbers on one screen, see our custom dashboards service.
