How to Get More Customer Reviews, and Use Them in Your Ads
Reviews are the proof Ghanaian buyers look for before paying. How to ask for them, collect them on WhatsApp and Google, and use them in adverts, pages and replies.
Before a Ghanaian buyer pays someone they don't know, they look for proof that other people did it safely and were happy. Reviews and testimonials are that proof.
Most businesses have happy customers. Few collect and use their words. Here's how.
Ask at the right moment
The best time to ask is right after a good experience:
- When the order is delivered and the customer is happy.
- When they send a thank-you message.
- After a service is finished well.
- When they reorder.
Make it easy
People are busy. Make the ask short and the action simple.
Hi Ama, so glad you love the dress! Would you mind sending us a quick photo or a line about your experience? It really helps other customers trust us. Thank you!

Collect the right kinds of proof
| Type | Why it works |
|---|---|
| Chat screenshots | Familiar, natural and convincing in Ghana |
| Customer photos | Shows the real product on real people |
| Short videos | The most powerful, if customers are willing |
| Google reviews | Third-party, public, helps local search |
| Named written testimonials | Easy to use on pages and adverts |
| Numbers | "1,200 orders delivered this year" |
Always ask permission before using someone's name, photo or messages publicly. Hide phone numbers and personal details in screenshots.
Use reviews everywhere
- Adverts: a customer quote as the hook, screenshots as proof, customer videos as UGC-style ads. See AI UGC ads.
- Product pages: near the top and lower down.
- Instagram highlights: a "Reviews" highlight that buyers can tap.
- WhatsApp replies and follow-ups: send a relevant review when someone hesitates. See follow-up messages.
- Packaging and receipts: "Loved it? Tell us here."
Make reviews specific
"Great service!" is nice. "Ordered on Monday, delivered to Kasoa on Tuesday, exactly like the photo" is convincing. When you ask, prompt for detail: "What did you like most?" or "How was delivery?"
Handle bad reviews well
Bad reviews will come. They can even help, because a perfect record looks fake. Respond quickly, politely and publicly, then solve it privately. A fair response to a complaint often builds more trust than a dozen five-star reviews.
Never fake reviews
Fake reviews break platform rules, can get your listings removed, and destroy trust when discovered. Buyers in Ghana are good at spotting them. Earn real ones.
Make it a habit
Add review requests to your process: a message the day after delivery, automated if possible, and a monthly check of new reviews to use in content and adverts. See AI automation for small businesses.
Common questions
Can I offer a reward for reviews?
Offering a small thank-you for honest feedback is common, but platforms like Google don't allow incentives for reviews. Keep incentives off Google, and never pay for positive reviews.
How many reviews do I need?
More is better, but even a handful of specific, named reviews makes a big difference. Collect them before scaling adverts.
