How to Plan a Month of Content in One Afternoon
Posting when you remember isn't a strategy. A simple way for Ghanaian businesses to plan a month of Instagram, TikTok and Facebook content in a few hours, with a template.
Most business owners post when they remember, or when sales are slow. The result is a page that's busy one week and silent for a month, which is exactly what makes buyers wonder if you're still operating.
A content calendar fixes that. It doesn't need to be complicated. Here's how to plan a month in one afternoon.
Step 1: Know what your content is for
Your content has three jobs:
- Reach new people who don't know you yet.
- Build trust with people checking you out.
- Sell to people who are ready.
Every post should do at least one of these.
Step 2: Choose your content types
Pick five or six types that suit your business, and rotate them.
| Type | Job | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Product in use | Sell | A customer wearing the dress at an event |
| Customer proof | Trust | Review screenshot, customer photo |
| Behind the scenes | Trust | Packing orders, making products |
| How-to or tips | Reach, trust | "How to style one dress three ways" |
| Answering a doubt | Trust, sell | "How to tell if a charger is original" |
| Offer or new arrival | Sell | "New in: linen sets, GH₵ 420" |
| Founder or team | Trust | Why you started, meet the team |
| Trend or entertainment | Reach | A trend adapted to your product |
Step 3: Set your rhythm
A realistic rhythm for most small businesses:
- 3 to 4 feed posts or carousels a week.
- 3 to 5 Reels or TikToks a week.
- Stories most days.
Consistency matters more than volume. Pick a rhythm you can keep.
Step 4: Note the dates that matter
Add to your calendar:
- Product launches and restocks.
- Holidays and seasons: Valentine's, Easter, Independence Day, back-to-school, Christmas.
- Paydays, when many buyers are ready to spend.
- Local events relevant to your customers.
Step 5: Fill the calendar
Use a simple spreadsheet with these columns: date, platform, content type, topic, hook, caption, visual needed, status.
Fill four weeks, rotating your content types. Write the hook for each post first; the hook is what decides whether people stop. See ad hooks that stop the scroll.
Step 6: Batch the production
Don't create one post a day. Shoot photos and videos for a week or month in one session. Write all captions in one sitting. Use AI to help draft captions, generate product images and turn one video into several formats. See how to use ChatGPT in your business.
Step 7: Schedule and review
Schedule posts in Meta Business Suite or another scheduler, so they go out even when you're busy. At the end of each month, look at:
- Which posts brought messages and sales, not just likes.
- Which hooks worked.
- What customers asked about in comments and DMs.
Use that to plan next month.
A sample week
| Day | Post |
|---|---|
| Monday | Reel: product in use, strong hook |
| Tuesday | Carousel: how-to tips |
| Wednesday | Reel: customer review or unboxing |
| Thursday | Post: answering a common doubt |
| Friday | Reel: new arrival with price, for payday weekend |
| Saturday | Story series: behind the scenes, polls |
| Sunday | Rest, or a light story |
Common questions
How long does it take?
The first plan takes a few hours. After that, it gets faster because you reuse your content types and learn what works.
Should I post the same thing on every platform?
You can repurpose, but adapt it. TikTok needs a more native style, Instagram feed rewards polish, Facebook often suits older audiences.
