How to Read Your Facebook Ads Manager Report in 10 Minutes
Ads Manager shows dozens of numbers. Here are the handful that matter, what each one tells you, and a simple weekly routine for deciding what to change.
Open Meta Ads Manager for the first time and you'll see a wall of numbers: reach, impressions, CPM, CTR, results, cost per result, frequency, ROAS. It's easy to drown.
You don't need all of it. Here's a 10-minute routine that tells you what's working and what to change.
Set up your columns once
Ads Manager lets you customise columns. Create a saved view with:
- Amount spent
- Results (purchases or leads)
- Cost per result
- Purchase conversion value (revenue)
- ROAS
- Click-through rate (link)
- Cost per link click
- Frequency
- CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions)
Save it as "Weekly check" so it's there every time.
Read from the bottom of the funnel up
Start with what you care about, then work backwards to find the cause.
1. Cost per result and ROAS
Is each sale or lead costing less than you can afford? Is revenue bigger than spend by enough to be profitable? If yes, the campaign is working. See ROAS explained.
2. If results are poor, check click-through rate
Link CTR below about 1% usually means the creative isn't stopping people, or isn't relevant. Test new concepts.
3. If CTR is fine, check what happens after the click
People are clicking but not buying. Compare link clicks with landing page views. A big gap means your page is slow. If people arrive but don't buy, the page, price, offer or checkout is the problem. See product pages that sell.
4. Check frequency
Above 3 to 4 in a week, with falling CTR, means the audience is tired of the advert. Add fresh creative. See ad fatigue.
5. Check CPM
CPM is what you pay to show your advert 1,000 times. It rises in busy seasons like December, and when your adverts get poor feedback. A sudden jump with no seasonal reason is worth investigating.
A quick diagnosis table
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Low CTR | Weak or irrelevant creative | New hooks and concepts |
| Good CTR, few sales | Page, offer or checkout | Fix the page, show price, simplify checkout |
| Clicks much higher than page views | Slow page | Speed up the page |
| High frequency, falling results | Fatigue | Fresh creative, broader audience |
| Results in Ads Manager don't match real orders | Tracking | Test the Pixel and Conversions API |
| Rising CPM | Season or poor feedback | Check season, refresh creative |
Use the right time window
Don't judge on one day. Look at the last 7 days for decisions, and compare with the 7 days before. Meta's results also take a little time to finish reporting, so the most recent day often looks worse than it is.
Check against reality
Once a week, compare purchases in Ads Manager with your actual orders from your shop, checkout or order book. If they don't roughly match, fix tracking before trusting any other number. See setting up the Pixel.
Your weekly routine
- Open your saved "Weekly check" view, last 7 days.
- Look at cost per result and ROAS by campaign.
- For poor performers, check CTR, then landing page views, then frequency.
- Pause clear losers that have had a fair chance.
- Move budget gradually toward winners.
- Add at least one new creative concept.
- Compare with real orders.
That's it. Ten minutes, once a week, and you'll know more about your adverts than most business owners.
Common questions
What's a good CTR in Ghana?
Above 1% for link CTR is a reasonable baseline for many accounts. Strong creative often does much better.
Why do my results change from one day to the next?
Auctions change daily. Judge trends over a week, not single days.
