Event Branding: A Checklist for Conferences, Launches and Summits

People judge an event by its flyer before they buy a ticket. A complete branding checklist for Ghanaian conferences, launches, church and youth events, from identity to merchandise.

Before anyone attends your event, all they have is your visuals: the announcement flyer, the speaker cards, the countdown posts. If those look inconsistent or cheap, people assume the event will be too.

Good event branding sells tickets, attracts sponsors and makes people treat the event as something that matters. Here's a checklist.

1. The identity

  • Event name treatment or logo
  • Colour palette
  • Typography
  • Graphic elements: patterns, shapes, photography style
  • A one-page style guide for everyone creating materials

Do this first. Everything else is built on it.

2. Pre-event campaign

  • Announcement graphic and video
  • Speaker and guest cards
  • Sponsor announcement templates
  • Countdown posts and stories
  • Ticket sales and early-bird graphics
  • Event page or registration page
  • Email and WhatsApp announcement templates

3. Print and environment

  • Stage backdrop
  • Banners and roll-ups
  • Directional signage
  • Photo wall or backdrop for pictures
  • Name badges and lanyards
  • Wristbands or tickets
  • Programmes or agendas
  • Volunteer and staff T-shirts

4. Merchandise

  • T-shirts, hoodies, caps
  • Tote bags
  • Notebooks, bottles or other items

Design merchandise people actually want to wear afterwards. Then attendees become walking adverts for your next event.

5. On the day

  • Screen graphics for presentations and breaks
  • Speaker introduction slides
  • Live social media templates
  • Photographer and videographer brief

6. After the event

  • Thank-you posts
  • Highlight video
  • Photo albums
  • Next event announcement

A real example

Alpha Youth UK had a strong programme, but previous events used different colours on the flyer than on the banner, and different fonts on social media than on printed materials. We built one identity and applied it to everything: social campaign, print, signage, wristbands, lanyards and a merchandise range. The event drew over 1,000 attendees and sold over 500 merchandise items. Read the Alpha Youth UK case study.

Common questions

Do small events need full branding?

Scale it down, but keep it consistent. Even a small event looks more professional with one look across every flyer and post.

Should event branding match our organisation's brand?

It can be its own identity, but should feel related, especially for annual events.
