Advantage+ Campaigns: Should You Let Meta Run Your Ads?
Meta's Advantage+ settings automate targeting, placements and creative. What they do, when they work for Ghanaian businesses, and what you should still control yourself.
Every time you create a campaign in Meta Ads Manager now, you'll see the word Advantage+ somewhere. Advantage+ audience, Advantage+ placements, Advantage+ creative, Advantage+ sales campaigns. Meta is steadily handing more decisions to its own system.
Should you let it? Mostly, yes, with some guardrails.
What Advantage+ means
Advantage+ is Meta's name for its automated options. Instead of you choosing exact audiences, placements or creative tweaks, Meta's system decides, using what it learns from your results.
The main pieces:
| Feature | What it automates |
|---|---|
| Advantage+ sales campaigns | Much of the campaign setup, budget and audience for sales |
| Advantage+ audience | Who sees your adverts, using your suggestions as hints |
| Advantage+ placements | Where adverts appear across Facebook, Instagram and more |
| Advantage+ creative | Small automatic changes like cropping, brightness and text variations |
Why Meta pushes it
Meta's systems, including its Andromeda retrieval engine, can match adverts to people better than most humans can choose interests. The more freedom it has, the more people it can test. See Meta's Andromeda update.
In many accounts, automated campaigns now match or beat manual ones.
When it works well
- Your tracking is accurate, so Meta learns from real purchases.
- You have enough conversions, ideally dozens a week.
- You give it plenty of distinct creative.
- You sell something with broad appeal in the areas you deliver to.
When to be careful
- Tracking is broken. Automation optimises for whatever it can see, which might be the wrong thing.
- Very low budgets. The system has little data to learn from.
- Delivery limits. Make sure location settings only include places you serve.
- Brand-sensitive creative. Advantage+ creative can crop, recolour or add text. Review what it's allowed to change, and turn off anything that harms your brand.
- Existing customers. Automated audiences can spend on people who'd buy anyway. Use customer lists to tell Meta who your existing customers are, where available, so you can track or limit spend on them.
What you still control
Automation doesn't remove the need for judgement. You still decide:
- The offer. No system can fix a weak offer.
- The creative. This is now the biggest lever you have.
- Where people land. A fast, convincing page or a well-run WhatsApp chat.
- The budget and when to scale.
- Tracking quality.
- Follow-up after the click.
A sensible way to test
- Keep your best manual campaign running.
- Launch an Advantage+ sales campaign with the same budget and several of your strongest creatives.
- Run both for two to three weeks.
- Compare cost per purchase and return, using your real orders, not just Ads Manager.
- Move budget to whichever wins.
Common questions
Will Advantage+ waste my money on the wrong people?
It can, if tracking is wrong or creative is unclear. With accurate tracking and clear creative, it usually finds buyers well.
Can I still exclude audiences?
Some exclusions remain available, and options change over time. Check the current settings in your account.
Should small businesses use it?
Yes, if tracking is set up properly. The simplicity helps small teams. Just feed it good creative.
